Kristen Zuray, BCCMHC, CPRC, CPC

Board Certified Christian Mental Health Coach , Professional Recovery Coach, and Life Coach
(509) 316-2206 kristenz@seattlechristiancounseling.com

As a certified Christian coach, my passion is to help you work through your struggles and discover your purpose. Please note: Coaching is not the same as mental health counseling. I am not a health care provider or licensed counselor, but I am a Board Certified Christian Mental Health Coach (BCCMHC), Professional Recovery Coach (CPRC), and Life Coach (CPC). I have found that purpose and identity go hand in hand. If you are unsure of your purpose, it might be that you are unsure of the gifts, beliefs, and emotions that make up who you are. Your identity is not based on what people do or say to you, but in how you respond to them.

About

I offer professional Christian coaching for teens and adult individuals. One of my goals as your coach is to help you restore your sense of worth and replace the negative labels you’ve believed with God’s labels. I want you to be free to see yourself through God’s eyes – loved, valued, and cherished. I will listen to your story with no judgment as we seek to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit during our time together. I am passionate about helping each of my clients overcome the obstacles that are keeping them from accomplishing their goals and realizing their hopes for the future. Together we will work to cross those barriers so you can experience the joy and hope found in Jesus Christ.

My Goal as a Christian Coach

My goal as a Christian coach is to help you dream, set your goals, and identify the obstacles that are preventing you from moving forward. I love to dream and to bring those dreams into reality. Because of this, I lead people into strategic plans for their lives. I have personally walked through the process of identifying, grieving, and healing after hardship. As your coach, I will walk alongside you, offering hope and casting a future focus.

What I Offer in Christian Coaching

I offer a safe, judgement-free space where you can feel comfortable to share. I like to begin by igniting dreams and goals. Early on, we will create a vision statement. We will then start tackling the obstacles that may hinder the vision statement from being realized. In our sessions, we will work on bringing the Trinity into those painful moments, exploring in what ways God turned pain into good. My hope is that through our time together, you will also come to an understanding of who you are in Christ.

My Approach to Christian Coaching

Without Jesus, there is no genuine healing, no freedom from the bondage of trauma. “The truth will set you free.” “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” We need to face the truth about our trauma in order to be set free to move forward into God’s calling. If trauma has deprived us of a future vision, then life becomes meaningless. Based on these truths, both components have to be present in coaching: truth and vision. Depending on the extent of trauma in a person’s life, I may refer them to a counselor.

Biography

Qualifications & Experience

I am qualified as a Board Certified Christian Mental Health Coach (BCCMHC), Professional Recovery Coach (CPRC), and Life Coach (CPC). I also hold a BA in Youth Ministries. I received my training and education from The Fowler International Academy of Professional Coaching, Net Institute, Lighthouse University, and Pensacola Christian College. I’ve been counseling informally for 25 years (pastoral counseling and youth mentorship).

My Call to Christian Coaching

Spending 17 years as a pastor’s wife and establishing a non-profit for youth in crisis opened my eyes to the abuses and trauma that people of all ages suffer from. My passion to help people break free from the pain so they could reach their potential led me into coaching, with an emphasis in mental health and addiction/recovery.

More About Me/On a Personal Note

My husband and I recently celebrated 25 years of marriage. We have four children. My interests include writing, exploring new coffee shops, and going on day trips, especially on a motorcycle with my husband. I am a motivated self-starter.

Services and Specialities

Areas of Expertise/Specialties

I offer professional Christian coaching with an emphasis in:

  • Trauma
  • Depression
  • Codependency
  • Parenting
  • Spiritual Development
  • Addiction/Recovery
  • Personal Development
  • Marriage
  • Online Coaching

Personal Development

Have a dream that’s still just a dream? Fear is the biggest setback for many in accomplishing their dreams and goals. That fear is often rooted to past abuse, neglect, or even a simple misunderstanding. By exploring the obstacles that are hindering forward movement, we can learn to identify them and create ways to overcome them. A vision statement plants the seed of hope in which a pathway can take root and grow into dreams fulfilled.

Trauma

Do you ever wonder why you react in certain ways? Deep within our subconscious lies memories that manifest themselves into our belief systems. We live out what we believe. Only through Jesus can we have breakthroughs in our thinking. I will help you identify the false narratives that shape your thoughts, discover the memory that created the belief, and work with you to reframe the trauma by inviting God the Father, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit into that moment. Breaking free from the negativity will allow you to live in your full potential.

Spiritual Development

Does God seem distant and aloof? Are you struggling to spend time with him? If so, you’re not alone! The way we view God is shaped by the relationships we’ve had with authority in our childhood. If you grew up with an abusive father, then you might struggle with your view of God as a father. If you live with an angry spouse, you may struggle with the picture of Jesus as your bridegroom. I am passionate about helping you discover and reconnect to God. Together, we will explore what you believe about yourself and where that belief originated. You will understand your view towards God as a Father, Jesus as a friend or groom, and the Holy Spirit as a comforter and teacher. When those three are present, then you will journey on to finding your identity in Christ and establishing good spiritual habits.

Coaching for Addiction/Recovery

Please note: To receive coaching in this area, you must be in counseling currently or have completed counseling.

Coaching will provide accountability, additional support to counseling, goal setting, vision casting, and reconnection with joy in a safe, judgment-free environment.

For family members of those struggling with addiction, we will explore any unhealthy behaviors of enabling and codependency, establishing an environment of shalom (peace, joy), and the process of forgiveness.

Parenting

Once the baby is born, you are parenting for life. Being a mother or a father brings great joy and moments of heartache. For parents of newborns to the elementary age, setting the right foundation for your children is crucial for the teenage years and adult life. I will help you understand your biblical roles and expectations as set by God, boundary setting, and how to minimize ACEs (adverse childhood experiences).

It is possible to have your teenager as your friend. How does that happen? Through example setting, transparency, boundaries, building trust, and communication.

Children grow up and your roles as parents change. Their need for you doesn’t go away, it only changes. How do you make the transition of seeing them as adults, of letting go, and supporting them differently? How do you recreate your life now that you’re an empty-nester? We’ll explore your fears, set expectations, and work through codependency so that you and your children can meet for holidays with joy.
