About

I offer empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard to my clients. As a fellow pilgrim in this journey toward eternal life, I look forward to walking alongside you while we learn together how to embrace God’s plans and purposes. I approach our sessions as someone who knows what it means to be in need and to be rescued by our great God. I have seen the Lord do amazing work, and I believe He can do the same for you through our time together as we implement therapeutic techniques and strategies.

My Goal as a Christian Counselor

My goal for is for you to find a deep sense of self-understanding as you journey through the flowers and weeds of your life. When you begin to open the doors inside yourself, you kickstart the journey of self-awakening. My hope is for you to find the restorative understanding and knowledge through our therapeutic sessions that inevitably lead to a deeper sense of confidence in your identity in Christ.

What I Offer in Christian Counseling

I offer space for you to navigate through the trials in your life. Together we will find practical, effective ways to move toward a place of healing and reconciliation. While you steer the direction of our conversation, I focus my energy on the path you drive, pointing out things you might not notice. It’s my job to open doors to new and old places—sometimes the doors can be happily and purposefully shut, while others are hidden and yet to be discovered. I look forward to journeying with you to a place of hope and restoration, with God’s help.

My Approach to Christian Counseling

A Christian approach to counseling offers the hope of everlasting life that feels like sunshine after the rain. There is an honesty beyond the scope of therapy that lies in the faith of knowing that our life circumstances are in the hands of our Creator and that He loves us more profoundly than we could ever know.

Biography

Qualifications & Experience

I received my Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northern Arizona University and my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Montana State University Billings. I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor with Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Certified Level 1).

In addition, I’ve received multi-cultural training through Native Americans for Community Action, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy training through Passages (a female in-patient treatment facility), and Matrix Relapse Prevention and STOP Program training (domestic violence therapy).

I have been working in the counseling field since 2011 including roles as a community health specialist and behavioral health technician. Through my mental health tenure, I have worked in community mental health centers, inpatient treatment centers, Native American specific clinics, court mandated services, and federal treatment centers.

My Call to Christian Counseling

Becoming a therapist has been a lifelong journey of mistakes, mentorship, and listening to the soft voice of our Lord. Through the lens of living life without fear, listening to the music beneath the lyrics, and staying rooted in a never-ending curiosity, I have found a home as a therapist. My own stained-glass history has led me to a place where I can be an eclectic and unique listener of life and help others on their path to further meaning and healing.

More About Me/On a Personal Note

I was born in Seattle and grew up in the surrounding areas until age 8, when my family moved to Montana. I joined the Army when I was 18 and spent six years in service. I started my college career at North Idaho College when I was 24 and transferred to Montana State University Billings with my wife. We were married during our undergrad and moved to Flagstaff, Arizona so I could attend grad school. We lived in Arizona for three years, and both our children were born there.

Relationship Issues

Humans are creatures of relationships; whether it is with your spouse, co-workers, children, siblings, or friends on Facebook, these relationships create the fabric of our lives and our identities. Navigating the ever-changing paths can be a daunting task and tending to each individual relationship can take its toll. Through exploration of your present and past relationships, hidden patterns will be discovered and the new found self-understanding will give you the freedom and knowledge to engage in your relationships as a newborn relationship guru.

Personal Development

In my experience, every human being has a deep, intrinsic drive to grow and become the best version of themselves possible. Regardless of your current circumstances such as a bad work environment, a difficult marriage, or nonstop activities revolving around your kids, you probably have dreams and unfulfilled aspirations beyond the realm of weekend chores and fixing the washing machine. I want to be the guide that walks you through the doors of the unknown and leads you to the truest form of understanding yourself. Through each session we will explore the subtle and nuanced parts of your inner self to discover the complex mosaic of your true self.

Men’s Issues

As social paradigms swing and sway, it can be hard to find the solid ground beneath your feet where you can anchor your moral compass. Men are met with new challenges everyday as our society changes and unfolds around us. I offer a safe haven to unload your inner thoughts about society, politics, and core values. I aim to be the sounding board where you can reflect your true thoughts and feelings surrounding any and all concerns, issues, and dilemmas you are facing in this ever-changing landscape.

Chemical Dependency

Whether you are thinking about cutting back, going cold turkey, or exploring the idea of turning a new leaf, I want to join the odyssey with you. I have experience beyond the scope of academia and through my combined perspectives I can help you through the duration of your journey. I will wade into the deep waters with you and be your guide to safe and stable shores.

Depression

Like a pothole on the way to work or a load of laundry sitting in the living room, there are inevitable life events and circumstances that stand in our way. When you encounter these obstacles, you may feel like your choices narrow or even become robotic. The shades have been drawn for months and feelings of hopelessness and despair become a daily reminder of the life you wish you could take part of. Let me show you the light creeping through the blinds and the world beyond your computer screen. My goal is for you to run freely through life with the gate left open.
