The Best Scriptures to Bring Healing to Your Life
Jessica Burgans
Are you seeking healing that will transform your life? Maybe you have physical wounds that need healing. But your wounds may not be visible to the naked eye. Perhaps your heart is so wounded that healing seems impossible. The Bible promises healing for every aspect of our lives, whether we need physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual healing.
Physical healing.
Are you dealing with chronic pain or a serious, life-threatening illness? If so, you may feel desperate for healing that will make your pain go away.
In this Bible passage, we learn about a woman in a similar situation as yours. She had a flow of blood that hadn’t stopped in 12 years. She was desperate for healing. And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.”
And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’”
And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” – Mark 5:25-34
In her culture, a constant flow of blood made her ceremonially unclean, meaning she was not able to worship in fellowship with others. She had also spent all her money trying to find a cure with no lasting results.
Can you relate to this woman’s struggle? She was cut off from normal life and relationships. Her savings had been depleted by doctor bills. She was willing to try anything to get help. This woman had heard of Jesus’ healing power. She decided that if she only touched his cloak, she would be healed. Once she grasped the edge of his robe, the bleeding finally stopped!Jesus told her that her faith made her well. Do you need greater faith? Stories of healing in the Bible can give you the hope you need for your physical healing.
Emotional healing.
Do you have deep hurts because someone wronged you? Do you struggle with guilt over hurting someone else? If either of these statements are true in your life, you need emotional healing. Let’s look at the story of Jesus with the Samaritan woman. Here are some excerpts – you can read it in full in John 4:7-26.
A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)… Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”
Samaritans were outcasts in Jesus’ day. This woman was even more of an outcast because she had many broken relationships. But Jesus chose to interact with her anyway. At the time Jesus spoke with her, she was living with a man who was not her husband, which in those days would have been a major social taboo. The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.” – John 4:7-26
She came to the well to draw water, but Jesus offered her living water to heal the sin in her soul. The healing he offered to her ministered to her heart’s deepest needs. Do you seek heart healing, like the woman at the well? Jesus can heal you of your sin problem.
Mental healing.
If you’re like many Americans, you deal with constant stress, and your thought life may be a mess. The good news is that God offers you mental healing so that you can have his perfect peace despite your problems.
Let’s look at how Jesus provided mental healing to a certain man.
As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, “Never was anything like this seen in Israel.” – Matthew 9:32-33
Jesus healed many people who were afflicted by evil spirits, such as in this account of the demon-possessed man’s healing. Jesus cared about the mental health of many different people. He had compassion for their needs and healed them so their minds would be clear. If you need healing in your mind, God is ready to offer it to you as well.
Spiritual healing.
Have you been hurt by a fellow Christian or perhaps by church leaders? In your heart of hearts, are you harboring anger toward God? You may need spiritual healing, which is only available through God.
Let’s look at this account of Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane.
And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.. – Luke 22:41-44
Jesus was in such anguish over his impending suffering that drops of blood fell from his brow. He cried out in agony, asking God to take the cup of suffering from him. But Jesus put his request into his Father’s hands, trusting him with the outcome.
It’s comforting to know that even Jesus sought healing from his Father. We can be bold enough to do the same because Jesus set an example for us. In fact, we can only have healing because Jesus suffered and died for our sins, so we can have new life in him alone.
