About

As your counselor, I will accept, honor, and affirm your feelings, emotions, and stories of deep pain, confusion, and fear and not try to defend against them. I will help you overcome any sense of shame or fear you may be experiencing as a result of your circumstances. No matter what you’re going through, I believe the Lord can use our time together in Christian counseling to help you emerge from the darkness into the light of life through hope and faith in Christ. I look forward to seeing how He works in your life.

My Goal as a Christian Counselor

My goals as a counselor are to provide a relational space where you feel free to express yourself truthfully even through high levels of fear and shame, and for you to develop motivation to strive for healing with God’s help. My hope is that through our sessions together, you will accepted and affirmed, and that the tools we discuss will equip you to take the necessary steps for personal growth and recovery.

What I Offer in Christian Counseling

I offer a safe space where you will be accepted, affirmed, honored, and believed in whatever experience, feeling, or thought you bring to the session. I will follow your lead for each session, assuming that you are in therapy with a willingness to do the work necessary to achieve the healing you desire. Together we will develop a treatment plan to meet your needs so you can experience the growth and peace that God has planned for you.

My Approach to Christian Counseling

As someone made in the image of God, the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual aspects of your being are all interconnected. As a Christian therapist, I believe my clients can find the healing they desire through Christ. My faith assumes that relationships matter, and because they matter, I desire to create a space where a fruitful and healing therapeutic relationship can form. I believe that Jesus acts through truth and grace. A strong relationship formed by grace allows truth to be spoken and change to be grasped.

Biography

Qualifications & Experience

I received my undergraduate degree from Western Washington University with a Classical Studies Major and a Comparative Religion Minor. I graduated with a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology and did my internship at Northwest University in Kirkland, WA.

My Call to Christian Counseling

Most of my life has consisted of listening to others, including family, friends, and strangers. God has given me the ability to easily accept in others what they feel is horrible or disgusting within themselves. The turning point that made the profession of counseling click was when I read the autobiography of Carl Jung in my senior year of undergrad. I read what he had done with his clients and desired to help people in a similar way.

More About Me/On a Personal Note

I enjoy spending time with family, writing and reading fantasy novels, playing games with friends, drawing, and recording music.

Anxiety

As your anxiety counselor, I will utilize and provide calming techniques such as tapping, mindfulness, and deep breathing to help you ground yourself in the midst of any anxiety that might exist during or outside your sessions. Together we will work to discover what form your anxiety takes and search out helpful remedies to better understand what drives those anxious thoughts and symptoms, such as a need for exercise, a need for silence and stillness, a need for focused attention, a need for a calming presence, a need for action, or a need for safety. If you continue to struggle to manage your anxiety and it affects your sleep, work, or quality of life to a severe degree, it may be appropriate to discuss the need for medication.

Spiritual Development

Spiritual development comes in many sizes and forms. Together we will come up with specific spiritual goals and find a practice which will help cultivate growth toward those goals. We may discuss your spiritual upbringing or lack thereof and how your past may be affecting your present. We will also discuss how certain activities and practices in the present will help bring about the change and development you desire. If desired, prayer, meditation, or stillness can be used during our sessions.

Depression

Depression can be debilitating. Whether it’s a lack of energy or enjoyment of daily activities, depression can be all-encompassing. As your therapist, I will be here to help shoulder the burden you carry so that you do not have to be alone in your pain. Together, we will work to discover or rediscover the joy that Christ says is possible in this present life. We will do this by exploring your current relationships, personal self-talk, past trauma, current lifestyle, and sleep and eating habits as well as simply expressing your deepest feelings and thoughts in our sessions together.

Trauma

When working with trauma, we need to identify your ability to function in the day-to-day parts of your life, including whether you are able to stay sheltered, keep hydrated and fed, and perform in school or your profession to your own personal standard. If functioning is impaired, we will move slowly and utilize grounding and calming techniques in order to better develop a place where you can tolerate the difficult emotions and sensations that will inevitably arise during the sessions. If it is determined together that you are functioning well enough in the day-to-day aspects of your life, we will go slowly into the trauma which has been affecting your life in a negative manner. Rather than simply re-live your trauma, we will work to develop a new, Christ-centered narrative that more accurately speaks into your past experience.

Sex and Porn Addiction

Sex and porn Addiction can wreak havoc on one’s own personal being as well as your partner’s. Because sex and pornography are widely accepted activities in our current culture, it can be difficult to admit that you are struggling with what has become more than simply a short-term, rewarding activity. Usually there are underlying reasons and gains for engaging in said behaviors. Together, we will explore what feelings, thoughts, or environmental factors are triggering a desire for inappropriate sexual activity. We will work together to more fully develop a sense of personal purpose as well as becoming an active and necessary part of your community.
